Excellence in Ministry Through Education
Purpose and Goals . . .
Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) is an educational process for those providing pastoral care to persons in the local congregations and other diverse settings while developing pastoral competency through supervised reflections.
Pastoral competency involves the following goals:
- Pastoral identity formation and theological/spiritual integration
- Self and interpersonal awareness
- Theory integration from which to function in pastoral assessment and intervention
- Development of pastoral care skills
- Utilization of professional supervision and consultation for growth in ministry
In addition to the above normative goals of CPE, the R. C. Freedom Ministries program also enables the student to develop and integrate his/her theory or model of ministry. This involves identifying the basic theological and psychological premises that shape understanding of the human condition. Students demonstrate integration by articulating his/her theory of ministry and how it shapes assessment criterion and styles of relating in pastoral care experiences.
